**Geostationary orbits.** - Altitude **~36 000 km** above the equator. - Orbital period = Earth's rotation (24 h) → the satellite **appears stationary** over one point on Earth. - **Examples:** weather satellites (GOES, Meteosat, Himawari) and communications satellites. - **Use:** continuous monitoring of the same hemisphere — great temporal resolution, coarse spatial resolution.
